Double Act

A creative Portfolio Photo Shoot:  Cameron and Tizane and their Opera Double-Act

Simon Says:

"Cameron is one of the world famous Ten Tenors, and a Kiwi, while Tizane is well known in Opera circles. Both are largely unheralded stars, who are doing great things with Opera and performance. I have known Cam for a while, and when he came to me with his concept for publicity shots for a new show, I knew it was right down our alley, and would be a perfect fit for both our style of photography, and our Wellington Studio.

Creative Portfolio Photography is one of our strengths, and we had fun doing it!

Cam, Tizane and I were totally in sync: We nailed a large shot list impressively, at pace, and to their creative brief.

This is what Cam had to say about the photo shoot and their up-coming shows:

"So basically, what we're going to put on is a double bill. There is a short opera called "The Telephone" by Giancarlo Menotti (who is an Italian-born American composer). It is a comedy and it is set in the mid 20th Century... hence the outfits and all the telephone-cord antics! It is about a young couple and on the particular day it is set, the young man is attempting to ask the young lady to marry him. However, she continually interrupts him by talking on the telephone. He eventually becomes so exasperated that he leaves, so that he can call her and finally he asks her over the phone to marry him. This lasts about 30 min or so.

Then for the second half we are going to present a cabaret-style style show. This will be set in modern times and will be a bit more dark and emotional.

We will not be pushing the publicity until the end of the year. We aim to open [our show] here in Wellington for the Fringe Festival and then tour around the country in March [next year].

Anyhow, I think that about sums everything up.

Thanks again so much for letting us run amok in your studio on Saturday! "

Beauty shoot: Piper & Emma

Check out Piper & Emma's young "Fashionista"-style shoot with make-up, outfit changes and a whole lot of fun...

We thought we would share with you a few stunning images from Piper & Emma's Beauty & Style Photo shoot. These two lovely girls recently came into our Studio after receiving  vouchers for their Christmas presents.

Jess Dewsnap had fun with the girls and made them feel comfortable and relaxed. It was a fun "Fashionista"- style shoot: Piper & Emma got to try out  a few different outfits, a couple of backdrop changes and of course, had their makeup done by none other than the lovely Sharee Wilkinson from Plush Studio- she worked her magic on the girls and they looked and felt amazing. Definitely young budding Fashionistas with a great sense of style. The result? A beautiful photo shoot and a fun time they will remember for ages!

Let them eat cake

Editorial Photography by Woolf  meets the Sweet Couture of a fine Wellington brand...Louis Sergeant...

A Sweet collaboration...

This year, the Woolf Photography Studio was lucky enough to join forces with one of Wellington's coolest Cuisine brands: Louis Sergeant, innovators in the traditional French Pâtisserie space, entrusted our photographers to help develop their new brand and advertising campaign. Louis, a connoisseur of all things sweet, an artist – trained in Northern France, his creations are influenced by trends in fashion, art and Parisian luxury was a fantastic photo shoot:

From start to finish, our marketing and design team worked closely with the client to understand the brand and its new direction. Together, we came up with the "Modern Day Marie Antoinette" theme, and after a pre-shoot session and many meetings around story boards, styling and location,  the team came together:

We entrusted the "Marie Antoinette" Hair style to the talented Bex Brent at Willis York and  the makeup to the fabulous Sharee Wilkinson from Plush Studio, whom we have worked with closely in the past on Creative and Glamour Shoots. Our models Millie, Islay and Jacob were chosen from the amazing  talent at Voda Model Management .

Other  important considerations to assist with the overall look and feel of the shoot were in the styling: It was decided that a Studio Photo shoot would best serve the client's objectives, rather than on-location, so we curated props and created a sophisticated universe within our City Studio.  Clothing and accessories were sourced from both the client and from talented New Zealand designers  Sofia Aroha (Good Faith NZ) and  Sylver and Shackel who supplied the jewellery: a mix of vintage and one-off pieces created here in New Zealand.  Shoes were gratefully sourced from Mi Piaci Shoes and men's clothing from Frank Casey in Wellington.

This was a fantastic collaboration-  one which produced beautiful, edgy and on-brand images , that both the client and our Studio are proud of.

Visit Louis Sergeant Sweet Couture on Facebook to see their album and for more behind-the scenes images or check out the advert in this month's Capital Magazine (june/July issue)...

'Tis the Season!

This month has been busy for the Woolf Photography team, what with all the celebrations going on in Wellington....

This month has been busy for the Photographers at Woolf: From Graduations (First Whitireia, Victoria University, Open Polytech and now Massey), to Investitures and other Events, our Team has been capturing important milestones in the life of the Community all month long!

Woolf Photography takes pride in being at the heart of the action, and being able to offer, as part of the experience, Studio Portrait sessions that create memories for our clients. Our Studio Gallery also offers standard and Custom Framing, so don't forget to inquire should you wish to properly preserve that which you have worked so hard to achieve.

Below is a taster of what Wellington looked like yesterday- we look forward to doing it all again at the end of this year!

We are Family

Woolf Photography has affiliations with families that go back a few decades,  and it is always a thrill for us to reconnect with them for family group portrait sittings and at other stages of their life...

Woolf Photography has affiliations with families that can go back a few decades,  and it is always a thrill for us to reconnect with them for family group portrait sittings and at other stages of their life...

Autumn and Winter, believe it, or not, is the best time for family photography! Outdoors maybe a bit cooler, however the light is less intense, and can sometimes be a bit more dramatic.  Here are some recent images Simon Woolf took over the weekend:

Woolf Photography's success is weighing up options with light and the best backgrounds, and going for it! If all else fails, and the weather gets too bad, there are always inside options, our fantastic central city studio. Fun is always a big part of the photography experience. We often take our imagery at pace, and try to capture the personalities of our subjects in context. With most our family groups, we take a number of combinations. The Woolf Photography team also work in different genres, between Colour and Black and White, and also using Contemporary, Traditional and Documentary styles.

At Woolf, we believe in being well prepared, so we see our pre-consultation appointments as  vital to our Photo shoot success. We also have contingency plans  and work out logistics to resolve most potential difficulties. Our after sales service is terrific: Because we are a one stop shop, we call on Janet, our full time framer from Frames +, to present and frame our photography beautifully and to our customers requirements.

Be my Valentine...

Winners of our "Be My Glamorous Valentine" 2015 competition had a wee surprise to reveal...

Tamsyn & Craig, winners of the 2015 "Be My Glamorous Valentine" Competition...

...their love story inspired us, so we gave them a Glamour Photo Shoot session in our Studio! As you might know by now, Weddings are one of Jess Dewsnap's favourite things...closely followed by Glamour and Bump-to-Baby photo-shoots!

Tamsyn and Craig had a little surprise for us: You see, they are about to become parents (at any moment!). But don't worry, Craig took care of the Moet, while Tamsyn enjoyed the chocolates...This was a celebration of their Love: a beautiful moment to capture.

Super Cuba-Dupa

See you next year #Cubadupa, #Wellington, #funinthecity, #community

Cuba Dupa, Wellington’s newest incarnation of the Cuba Street Carnival was a triumphant success! After two years of uncertainty (will the City Council approve the new venture or will it not?), the organisers pulled out all the stops, got the community involved, re-branded and produced a terrific event that we all look forward to again next year!

We sent down a crew to check it out- and if you weren’t there, you really missed something. It was an eclectic playground of colour, tastes and surprising encounters. Doug’s images only tell part of the story…

See you next year #Cubadupa, #Wellington, #funinthecity, #community, #wellingtonphotographers
